Barbara Jean Ortego, age 88 of Rolla, MO., passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Silverstone Place in Rolla.
Barbara was born on December 15, 1930, in Marine City, MI., a daughter to the late John and Lela (Brundage) Mapeltoft. She was united in marriage to Catalino Ortego. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1992. She will be joining her husband, her granddaughter Tina (Delor) Grant and her dog Chico in heaven.
Barbara was a solider in the Salvation Army where she worked for many years helping elderly and the homeless. She enjoyed rice pudding in the morning, playing bingo on the weekends, and watching westerns and murder mysteries in the evenings.
Survivors include: five children, Linda Roam of Rolla, John VanBuskirk of Daingerfield, TX., Rose Brown of Daingerfield, TX., Lela Gregory of Rolla and Mary Hill of Rolla, 11 grandchildren, Tony, Tina, Pedro, Jesus, Johnny, Crystal, Amber, Lisa, Kimberly, Johanna, Jenny, Johnny, Christian, and Daniel, numerous great- grandchildren, great -great- grandchildren and other family, friends and loved ones.
There will be no memorial services at this time.
