Betty Louise (Benton) Morrison passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Parkside Assisted Living in Rolla at the age of 90.
Betty was born November 9, 1934, in the Cook Station area to William Cecil and Eda (Earls) Benton. On November 27, 1952, she married Robert (Bob) Morrison. They were married 63 years until Bob’s death in 2015.
She worked as a secretary (administrative assistant wasn’t a term used during her working life) at UMR’s (now S&T) Continuing Education Office. When she retired, she worked full-time on their farm. They sold the farm in 2000 and moved to Rolla.
Betty had a booth at the Rolla Antique Mall and loved going to garage and estate sales to purchase inventory. She would sally forth on Friday and Saturday mornings with a fist full of dollar bills looking for the next great find. She missed seeing the garage-salers when her declining health kept her from going.
When she wasn’t garage sale shopping, she quilted, leaving a legacy of warmth and creativity for the family. We will remember her every time we cover ourselves with her fabric creations.
Betty was active in her church, First Church of God, St. James, serving countless funeral and church dinners, working in the nursery, greeting visitors at the door, and going to the women’s Bible study and lunch.
She is survived by her three children: Debbie Thompson, Dianna Morrison, and Mike and daughter-in-law Marcia Morrison, as well as two grandchildren: Reed Morrison, Sarah Wallace, and four great-grandchildren: Jens and Aska Morrison, Lincoln and Ivy Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Morrison, her parents, Cecil and Eda Benton, her brother, Thomas (Tommy) Benton and son-in-law Rick Thompson.
Services will be held at First Church of God, St. James, on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00 am with Don Carson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service.
