Bill Hand

 Bill Hand, age 94, of Mt. Vernon, passed away November 23, 2018, at the Mt. Vernon Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. Bill was born on February 7, 1924, a son to the late Earl and Georgia (Fryer) Hand. Bill grew up in Windsor, Mo., on the family farm located where the High School now stands, surrounded by beautiful countryside acreage. He resided there with his mother Georgia,  father Earl, and had fond memories growing up with his two brothers; Carl (deceased in childhood) Robert (deceased) and his sister Helen (deceased). He attended Windsor school system.   Bill was called to duty during WWII at the age of 18. He served three years in the European Theater, one of America's heroes. He returned from Germany with multiple decorations. Bill was a chicken sexer by trade. He traveled the circuit at this profession, from Clinton, Mo., to Maine and back. He owned, and worked at the many hatcheries in Clinton and Windsor, Mo., when the Golden Valley was the "Baby Chick Capital of the World". Bill enjoyed spending the holidays with his sons, driving his Cadillac, and playing bingo and pool. He always reminisced about family vacations when the boys were growing up.  Bill was married to Alberta Inselman and to this union was born Richard Hand of Jefferson City, and Terrrance Hand of Rolla. Also, the couple suffered the loss of a baby due to miscarriage.  Also surviving are Richard's wife Mindy, granddaughters, Julie and husband Spence, Kristy and husband Andy, Terry's wife Kelly, grandson Tim and his wife Amy, great-grand-children Kenadie and Max, grandson Travis and his wife Star and great-granddaughter London.  Funeral services will be held at a later date, with burial in the Laurel Oak cemetery in Windsor.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to: The Rosine Association (Childrens Christmas Fund) P.O.
