Charles "Bud" L. Dean

 Charles L. Dean, age 83 of Rolla, MO., passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla. He was born February 27, 1941 in Rolla, MO., a son to the late Charles P. and Helen M. Dean. On April 14, 1962, he married Linda J. Simily in Rolla. 

 Bud lived his entire life in Phelps county and was a life-long farmer. He worked in Rolla for the Rolla Farmers Exchange and Rolla Municipal Utilities. Upon retiring from Rolla Municipal Utilities, he and Linda owned and operated the H&R Block office in Rolla for a number of years. Bud served his country in the Army National Guard. He also served on the board of Phelps County Regional Medical Center, the board of Rolla Farmers Exchange, and as Phelps County commissioner. 

 Bud was very active in the Rolla Lions Club, serving as Carnival Chairman, President, Treasurer, and other offices. He also served as Lions Club District Governor, and president of Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Service. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla, where he served in numerous capacities. 

 Bud was a friend and mentor to many, and will especially be missed by his surviving family which includes: one daughter, Susan Scherer and husband Keith of St. Louis, MO., and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Dean of Rolla, MO.; five grandchildren; Stephanie Scherer, Andrew Scherer, Brady Dean and wife Ashley, Garrett Dean and wife Alexis, Mattie Clinton and husband Collin; three great grandchildren; Cooper Dean and Allee Dean, and Montgomery Clinton; one brother, William Dean and wife Carole of Cuba, MO; one sister, Mary Jensen and husband Erik of Springfield, MO, sister-in-law, Alice Dean of Rolla, MO; nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. 

 Bud was preceded in death by his wife Linda J. Dean, son Brian C. Dean, father Charles P. Dean, mother Helen M. Dean, brother Robert J. “Bob” Dean, and sister-in-law Eileen K. Dean.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church 1701 E. State Route 72 Rolla, MO., 65401 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Rolla Lions Foundation.
