Edward Joseph Smith

Edward Joseph Smith, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully in his home in Salem, MO surrounded by friends and family on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 10:35PM.  He was born on April 15, 1946, in Bayonne, NJ the son of Josephine and Edward J Smith, Sr. 

Ed worked as a Chemist at ASARCO/Doe Run Company in Vibernum, MO for 48 years where he worked with some great colleagues, most of whom he called friends.  He belonged to the Lion’s Club, where he loved to positively impact the kids of Salem by teaching life lessons through coaching T-ball, Softball and Baseball.  He had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed going to and competing in Car Shows with his 1966 Ford Galaxy.  He also loved collecting trains, had a passion for Rock and Roll, and his Christmas lights could never be outdone!  He was married to Elaine R. Smith, and together they lived on their farm and shared a love for horses, cats and their countless dogs over the years.

Ed is survived by his lovely Bride of 39 years, Elaine, as well as his children, John Frederick, Edward Frederick, Heather Smith and Edward J. Smith, III.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Frederick.  Ed will also be missed by his 5 grandchildren, Blake Kuzmeski, Madison and Taylor Smith, Bailey Frederick and Lindsey Frederick-Broyles. 

Cremation services were under the direction of Rolla Cremation and Memorial.  By his request, there will not be services as he always said that he wished to see people when he is alive, not after he passes.
