Judith Ann Powers, age 78, of St. James formerly of Waynesville, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Specialty Care Hospital in Springfield. Judith was born on September 22, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, a daughter to the late George "Elmer" and Ethel (Sliger) Powers. Judith graduated from Southwest Missouri College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Education in 1971. She began her career with the Waynesville R-VI school district in 1969 at the Elementary level as the School Counselor. She helped many students find their way to fulfilling their educational needs. She dedicated 25 years to the Waynesville students. In addition to her public education career, in 1983 she began working evenings as an Adjunct Faculty and Academic Advisor at Webster University until 2001. She contributed her Sundays to the military community by being a Contract Musician with the Chaplaincy at Ft. Leonard Wood Army Base. Judith is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert E. Powers; a sister, Norma Gene Powers Hrovat; a niece, Linda Lou Powers Jones and a dear friend, Lowell Hoke. She leaves a nephew, Randy Hrovat and wife Kathy of Rolla; a niece, Kinliegh Rosenauer of Bandera, Texas; a Grandniece, Heather Jones Cantwell of Trussville Alabama; four Grand nephews, Samuel and Blaine Hrovat of Rolla, Brian Jones of Helena, Alabama and Kevin Jones of Paducah, Kentucky, as well as many other family members, friends and former students to mourn her passing. She will be greatly missed by the Waynesville-St. Robert Community where she dedicated her life to educating children. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Judith Ann Powers Scholarship for Disabled Musicians in care of the Waynesville School System.
