Robert Keahi Chong, of Honolulu, Hawaii, was born January 19, 1929, in Honolulu. He passed away on April 7, 2025, at the age of 96, in Rolla, Missouri.
Robert attended Kaimuki High School in Honolulu. After graduating, Robert enlisted in the United States Army on April 9, 1951, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. During his time in the Army, he achieved the rank of Corporal and was awarded a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars as well as a U.N. Service Medal. He was discharged from the military in January of 1953 and entered the reserves, beginning his career as a custodian shortly after. Robert dedicated his career to the public school system on Oahu, serving at the elementary school his daughters attended. Robert had an incredible work ethic which was evident in every aspect of his life, but especially his career. On December 1, 1956, Robert married Mary Lee in Honolulu at the church they both attended. They went on to have two daughters, Mariette and Melveen, who were the highlight of Robert's life.
In the rare times that Robert wasn't working, he enjoyed several different hobbies. One of his favorite pastimes was reading a good book. He could also often be found watching western movies or working in the garden. One of Robert's favorite things to do was to pull weeds to keep the garden looking its best at all times.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Chong; two daughters, Mariette Lasley and Melveen Stevenson; one grandchild, Joshua Lasley; and many other extended family and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Henry Fook Chong; his mother, Sarah Hew Len, and eight siblings. Robert was the last of his siblings to pass away.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
