Sue Asher Killian, aged 77, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Chesterfield, MO, surrounded by her husband and three children.
Sue was born on May 5, 1947, in Waynesville, MO, to the late Kenneth and Erma Asher. She graduated from Rolla High School in 1965 and attended the University of Missouri.
Sue was one of the finest female amateur golfers in the state, winning the Missouri State Girls’ Golf Championship in 1964 at the age of 17. She shared her love of the game with her family and many friends, spending much of her time playing and passing on her knowledge to them.
Sue established and led the SMILE program for adults with developmental disabilities, enriching the lives of the participants and their families. Following that, she spent many years working as a loan officer at Phelps County Bank before retiring in 2005.
In retirement, Sue enjoyed spending time with family and attending the various sporting events, theater performances, and high school and college graduations of her grandchildren. Sue enjoyed visiting area schools, reading to children with her therapy dog, Annie. The two of them also liked visiting local nursing homes and retirement centers so Annie could lift residents’ spirits. She served on the Board of Directors for Senate Bill 40, which secured funding and assistance for the development of sheltered workshops, residential facilities, and educational programs for those with developmental disabilities.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Chris; her sons, Christopher (Marty) and Kenneth (Heather); her daughter, Lora (Craig) Hounsom; and seven grandchildren, Kaylie and David Killian, Chase and Carter Killian, and Jack, Adam, and Emily Hounsom. Also surviving are her sisters, Mary (Tom) Bahr and Jan Lockhart, along with several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 11am-1pm, at Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rolla Animal Shelter.
