Virgil Everett Smith, age 66 of Dixon, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at his residence.

Virgil was born August 11, 1958, in East St. Louis, Illinois.

He received his education at Washington Elementary School and East St. Louis High School and later furthered his education at Upward Bound Southern Illinois University Carbondale branch.

Virgil was saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Spirit at an early age at the House of Prayer in Centerville, Illinois, and was later called to the ministry. He served as Sunday School Superintendent at Holy Deliverance Community Church in East St. Louis.

Virgil was employed at the St Louis United States Post Office for 10 years. He resided in East St. Louis for 30 years before moving to Maries County in 1989 where he lived till his passing.

Virgil enjoyed sports and movies. He was an enthusiastic Cardinals fan, he was jolly, cheerful and solid in his faith. He loved playing scrabble and sports video games, and he enjoyed creating board games. To his legacy, he left 24 crossword puzzle books.

Virgil’s survivors include, his father, Christopher C. Smith, Sr. of Indianapolis, IN, one brother, Christopher C. Smith, Jr, and his wife Yvonne of Dixon, an uncle, Tommy Smith of Los Angeles, CA, four aunts, Cora Hughes and her husband Thomas, Dr. Janice Riddick, Carolyn Scott and her husband Johnny and JoAnn McGee all of Antelope, CA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Virgil’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Vienna Assembly of God Church, 1111 Hwy 63 North, Vienna, MO, with Rev. Clifford Wagner officiating.
